Wednesdays in Mississippi

I made time on Thursday to attend a panel discussion sponsored by Facing History and Ourselves. The panel featured three brave and dynamic women who journeyed from the North to the South (Jackson, MS to be specific) during the Civil Rights struggle. Their mission was to get women to spread a message of love not hate to stop the violence. So, they bravely made the journey throughout the summer of 1964 to hold secret meetings each Wednesday to Mississippi.

Two filmmakers were also on the panel. Though they have received funding from Women Make Movies to begin the documentary, they still need financial and non-financial support to finish the film quickly since the women that they are profiling in the documentary are in their 70’s and beyond.
